Ontex werd opgericht in 1979 te Buggenhout (door de ingenieurs Frans Obus en Paul van Malderen). In 2024 wordt de site in Buggenhout omgevormd tot een competitief expertisecentrum voor producten voor matige en ernstige incontinentie, inclusief het R&D-centrum voor volwassenenverzorging.
